Survey, design and renovation of a 50sqm apartment in Lycabettus
Federica and Julian found us online, they really liked our work, and wanted to collaborate on the renovation of the apartment they just bought in Exarcheia. They live permanently in Germany, so our first meeting was online.
They are archaeologists and have a great appreciation for the history and character of the old buildings of Athens. They were interested in preserving the character of their house as much as possible and wanted to highlight its natural materials. The existing layout of the apartment was ideal for them, so we renovated all the electrics and plumping of the house and installed a new heating system which is connected to natural gas. Then we proceeded with the selection of materials for the renovation.
Aesthetics
In the kitchen, they were amazed by the old marble sink and countertops, but they did not fit in the new kitchen layout. We decided to make a new sink, countertops, and backsplash for the kitchen out of Dionysos marble. We selected the marble pieces from the quarry in the Penteli mountain, which is located in Attica. We combined it with dark blue doors to create the necessary contrast, and we preserved the original mosaic on the floor to highlight an element of the house’s history.
In the bathroom we chose tiles with a mosaic effect and combined them with furniture in bright green that add the necessary freshness and uniqueness to the space.
We are very pleased with the result and the uniqueness of the project due its materials and colors.
