Design proposal and complete renovation of a home in Pangrati.
Venetia bought an old apartment in Pangrati with the intention of renovating and renting it out.
The 50 square meters apartment had a bedroom, separate room for the kitchen, the living room, dining room, entrance hall and bathroom.
Layout
The goal was to create a modern apartment in terms of aesthetics and functionality.
This led us to move the kitchen into the living room and make it the center of the house.
Also, we enlarged the bathroom as it was quite small and had a low ceiling because of the mezzanine storage space above it.
The bedroom remained in the same position and the new wardrobe got placed in the recess we created. The space of the old wardrobe will act as a home office corner.
In the hallway we created space to accommodate the washing machine, dryer and a wardrobe for extra storage.
Aesthetics
The owner, Venetia, is an architect herself, and as a result she brought her opinion on the final result and aesthetics of the house.
We worked together and came up with an aesthetically neutral result with interesting details and materials that blend harmoniously together.
In the kitchen and living room area, we preserved the existing timber floor and chose laminate surfaces for the cabinets and counter which match perfectly with the existing materials. We painted the walls of the space a similar color to the light shade cabinets, in order to make the space feel larger and incorporate the kitchen better into the room.
For the bathroom we chose earthy tones of beige and grey tiles on the floors, walls and built-in counter. We placed a big free standing washbasin of the bench and a large storage cabinet underneath. Above the sink we created a feature wall with strongly textured tile and LED lighting in the ceiling.
All the plumbing and electrical networks of the house were replaced with new ones.
An autonomous natural gas heating system was installed.
The existing timber floors as well as the mosaics of the veranda remained and were preserved
The windows throughout the house were replaced with new aluminum ones.
