Design and complete renovation of a home in Vrilissia.
Alexandros and Katerina bought this flat because it was a bargain. They decided to use it as an investment asset. They could not resist their taste and we renovated it as if they would use it themselves.
Alexandros and Katerina found us online and invited us to see their new apartment. The house was already in good condition but the owners wanted to make the most of it, making it modern, beautiful and more functional.
Our proposal
We decided to completely change the plan layout*, reversing the positions of the bathroom and kitchen to free up more space in the communal part of the house in order to fit in the living, dining area and kitchen in the same space. *The drastic change in layout has led us to issue a minor works planning permission
Living room – dining room and kitchen were unified giving the feeling of a larger and more comfortable space. The bathroom was placed in the former kitchen space next to the existing bedroom. This way we created two zones in the house, the communal and the private. We utilised the corridor connecting the two zones, by adding storage and placing the washing machine.
Materials
Alexandros and Katerina emphasised to us that good quality in materials and aesthetics was a priority for this project. We created a basic colour palette: white, black and red, which we used throughout the flat to choose the different materials.
Kitchen
We managed to fit everything in such a small kitchen. Dishwasher, large sink, kitchen, fridge, drawers and lots of cupboards. We chose white and red acrylic cabinets combined with a matte countertop (Fenix) and backsplash of glossy artificial granite tiles in black.
Living room
In the living room, we changed the aesthetics of the fireplace by replacing the old marble with black natural granite and straightening the slope of the chimney. We also added a recessed ceiling with hidden LED lighting.
Floors
For the floors of the apartment we chose black glossy tiles while in the bedroom we maintained the existing timber floor.
Bathroom
The bathroom was dominated by three shades: beige, black and brown wood. We created a built-in bench for the black concrete sinks, on which we installed a black acrylic surface cabinets. We chose black faucets and lamps to keep the aesthetic symmetry. Opposite the composition with the washbasins we created a walk-in shower with a glass cabin. On the back and the floor of the shower we installed wood effect tiles.
Bedroom
We created a plasterboard composition with hidden lighting which acts as a headboard and nightstands for the bed. Opposite we created another composition with shelved and recess for the TV.
Alexandre and Katerina, thank you for your trust. Your brand new home is ready!!!
