Design and complete renovation of a house in Athens.

Antonis visits Athens regularly for business. He decided to buy a house in the centre of Athens and renovate it. He chose a 100m2 floor apartment which is facing the forest of Lycabettus hill.

The instructions were clear from the start:

Comfort – big free spaces – lots of light – branded and reliable solutions for everything.

Plan layout

The apartment was in relatively good condition with two bedrooms, bathroom, WC, kitchen and a living-dining area.

Antoni’s desire for large and open spaces led us to join the living room with one of the bedrooms and move the kitchen there, in order to create a large common space for living, dining, and kitchen.

The two balcony doors in the living room became one large frame, giving the feeling that the forest literally enters the house.

The other bedroom and bathroom were kept in their original dimensions as they were already comfortable and we utilised the hallway by creating storage for the washing machine.

The space of the former kitchen was transformed into a big guest room with an ensuite bathroom.

Floors

All the old floors in the flat were stripped out to install tiles. We chose 25X120 artificial granite tiles in wood effect (natural oak) for the floors of the whole apartment, which emphasises the flow between the spaces.

Lighting

In the living room, the entrance and the kitchen we chose a combination of ceiling lights and hidden lights in the recessed ceiling feature so that there is an alternation between atmospheric soft and targeted bright lighting.

Kitchen

In the kitchen we suggested white gloss acrylic cabinets and a touch of black acrylic surface on the island cabinets which is combined with a Corian table. For the backsplash of the kitchen we chose a bright colour tile for a splash of colour in this part of the room. Since the kitchen is the centre of the action in the home, we thought it was a perfect fit.

The kitchen island doubles as a dining area for the apartment, deliberately leaving more space in the living room. We chose built-in stainless steel appliances and as Antonis is a lover of good wines, we installed a wine fridge next to the built-in refrigerator.

We decided on wooden frame chairs with a fabric  in a grey shade, while above the table we placed three round wooden lamps in the same shade as the wood of the chairs.

Bathroom

The bathroom is dominated by the combination of wood and white marble. We created a walk-in shower and a built-in counter with a free-standing sink and a wall-mounted faucet. We installed a mirror cabinet above the sink and also a cabinet under the counter to increase the storage spaces. For lighting we chose ceiling spotlights and linear LED above the shower and around the mirror.

WC

We enlarged the WC and thus created space for a shower. We chose a lilac tile which we combined with the same white marble tile we used in the other bathroom. We installed a piece of furniture with a built-in sink and chrome faucets.

Bedrooms

For the wardrobes, we chose matte laminate in a neutral shade in order to maintain the uniformity of the spaces.

In the master bedroom we placed wardrobes on two sides and created space for a TV opposite the bed.

In the guest room we created a space for a desk with shelves and in the recess of the wall we placed a bookcase.

Antoni, thank you for your trust. Enjoy your new home!!
